Gurinder Singh Johal (Tourist Guide & Social Worker)
In 1988 my father got me admitted in school "Town Hall", every day on my bicycle I went to school and waded through the narrow lanes of old town of Amritsar, while going to school I closely watched and felt the daily life of the people of Amritsar and it was not just a ride, it was a pilgrimage for me.
My teacher Mr. Gulati who used to tell us the golden days he enjoyed in Amritsar, and his talks and stories encouraged me to explore the hidden part of the city.
From the day one the people of the city, buildings, Sikh temples(Gurudwaras), Hindu Temple(Mandir), Mosques & gardens, foods of this city have always give me a sense of curiosity which happened to be a source of inspiration to show my city to the tourists. This city has given me an identity and also a livelihood. Walking in the narrow streets is like a pilgrimage.
After doing B.A., M.A. and B.Ed. from Khalsa college my passion to show my city to the people becomes my source of livelihood.
After having a spiritual and historic experience I decided to promote the heritage walk and the culture of my city on fulltime basis, now promotion of Heritage of Amritsar is my passion and also a source of livelihood.
Being as a heritage lover and guide it becomes a responsibility to spread the awareness to protect and restore this invaluable treasure of Bygone era, so Heritage walk is one the small effort in this direction.
